COOLANGATTA, QLD/Australia (Friday, October 26, 2012) – ASP Australasia and Surfing Queensland are excited to announce that the 2013 Breaka Burleigh Pro will be bigger and better than ever. Next year’s event will once again feature an ASP 4-Star Men’s event, attracting scores of the best surfers from Australia and throughout the globe. On top of this the 2013 Burleigh Breaka Pro will also feature an ASP 6-Star rated Women’s event and will see the event’s waiting period extended to eight days, further showcasing the world’s best surfers at one of the world’s most famous pointbreaks.
Nikki Van Dijk (AUS), recently crowned ASP Women’s World Junior Champion, missed out on qualifying for the 2013 Women’s World Championship Tour by only a few places. Next year will see her set her sights on elite Top 17 qualification starting with the first Women’s ASP 6-Star event in Australia for 2013 – the Breaka Burleigh Pro.

“I’m already so excited for the Breaka Burleigh Pro!” Van Dijk said. “The waves will be so fun and warm and I’m feeling super confident from my win in Bali. Burleigh will be my first event for next year so I’m really excited for it because I’ve seen the guys have a great event for the past few years.”

“Surfing Queensland is extremely excited that Breaka Flavoured Milk have bolstered their support of the Breaka Burleigh Pro,” Surfing Queensland CEO Scott Gillies said. “The introduction of a Women’s 6-Star component to coincide with existing Men’s event is a testament to Breaka’s commitment to surfing at all levels of the sport.”

Dane Jordan ASP Australasia’s General Manager is proud to see women’s surfing getting further support, and the chance to surf at the birth place of modern competitive surfing, Burleigh Heads, QLD.

“February is when the surfing world is fully focussed on Queensland,” Jordan said. “The Breaka Burleigh Pro has seen fantastic surfing from past, present and future surfing stars over the last few years, and it’s great that the women will now be able to be a part of an event of this calibre, at an iconic Australian surf break.”

Dimity Stoyle (AUS), is planning to use the Breaka Burleigh Pro as a springboard for her campaign to qualify for the 2014 Women’s World Championship Tour and will be using an event in her home State to her advantage.

“I can’t wait for the Breaka Burleigh Pro!” Stoyle said. “Having an event like this in Queensland next February with the best female surfers in the world is such a great opportunity. It’s an awesome thing for women’s surfing.”

The Breaka Burleigh Pro is proudly supported by Breaka Flavoured Milk, Events Queensland, Surfing Queensland, ASP Australasia, Channel 7, Southern Cross Austerio (B105 & Sea FM), Ooh!, Australia’s Surfing Life, GCCC, XXXX Summer Bright Lager, JR Surfboards, Scoot Airlines and 5 and a half Sunglasses.

The Breaka Burleigh Pro will be broadcast LIVE via www.breakaburleighsurfpro.com.au

Daily TV newsfeeds and high quality complimentary digital images along with press releases will be made available throughout the event.
