SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Friday, October 19, 2012) – The Rip Curl Pro Portugal has been called ON with a strong possibility of finishing the event by day’s end. Competition will commence at 8am in clean three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves at Supertubos.
Event No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal bore witness to the elimination of top seeds Kelly Slater (USA), 40, and Mick Fanning (AUS), 31, in yesterday’s action, opening up the 2012 ASP World Title Race for Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, and John John Florence (HAW), 20 – who will meet one another in this morning’s Quarterfinals.
“Clean conditions and still swell on offer this morning so we’ll commence competition immediately,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ll be aiming to finish the event today, but will monitor conditions closely and adjust calls accordingly. Good luck to all our remaining competitors today.”
Up first this morning be Jeremy Flores (FRA), 24, up against Raoni Monteiro (BRA), 30, in the final heat of Round 5 at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
