LOBITOS, Piura / Peru (Wednesday, Jul, 11, 2012) – The world’s top female surfers will be in Peru next week to partake in the ASP 6-Star Movistar Women’s Pro presented by Rip Curl and Petrolera Sapet in Lobitos. The event is scheduled for July 24-28 on the hollow lefthand waves of Lobitos, in northern Peru.
Many of the local athletes are working hard on their surfing for the upcoming event, which foresees to be highly contested. Some of the best women surfers have confirmed their spot in the competition, which will be broadcast live on the internet.
According to the Surfline.com forecast, sets will be in the 5-7 foot range (2-2.5 meters) during the first days of the event, with a good swell direction coming in from the southwest at 209 degrees.
The obvious standout will be former ASP Women’s World Tour champion and national favorite, Sofia Mulanovich (PER), who will be competing on her own turf, along with a number of Peruvian locals. Other surfers to watch out for are other World Tour surfers such as Jacqueline Silva (BRA), Rebecca Woods (AUS), Paige Hareb (NZL), Lakey Peterson (USA), Sage Erickson (USA), Pauline Ado (FRA) and Justine Dupont (FRA).
The Movistar Women’s Pro presented by Rip Curl and Petrolera Sapet will take place in between the final two events of the Women’s World Tour. The event in Biarritz, France is currently taking place and after the ASP 6-Star event in Lobitos, the elite women surfers move on to Huntington Beach, California for the final event where the Top-10 surfers in the World Ranking will maintain their status on the 2013 World Tour along with the top six surfers of the World Ranking.
